On 9th May 2016 MSB’s Joint Managing Directors, Don Porter and Brian Hamill, were delighted to join guests at the Four Seasons Hotel in Manama for a VIP preview of the first annual ‘Bahrain Art Across Borders’ (BAAB) exhibition.

Made possible thanks to the patronage of Tamkeen Chairman H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa, BAAB will promote the work of talented Bahraini artists across the world.  On 25th May it will open at the V&A in London.

The 17 featured artists (12 women and 5 men) were selected following an open call across Bahrain last month.  They include established artists and exciting newcomers exhibiting their work overseas for the first time.  The works on display will include paintings, sculpture and photography which reflect the strength, originality and tradition of the Bahraini identity.

Speaking at the preview, Sheikh Mohammed said: “Tamkeen works continuously to support Bahrainis across all stages of their development, with the ultimate aim of making the private sector the main engine for economic growth.  The group of artists who will be showcasing their works in London represent part of Tamkeen’s efforts to push Bahrainis and work with them in bringing unique Bahraini craftsmanship to new and untapped markets.”

Dr. Ebrahim Janahi, Chief Executive of Tamkeen, added “It gives us great pleasure to be supporting a group of passionate Bahrainis who will show their unique talents and creativity. This group of extremely talented individuals…have taken an important step in transcending local boundaries, contributing further to fuelling economic activity in this sector, and opening the doors to the development of a sustainable arts industry for future generations.”

Every year from now on, BAAB will identify Bahrain’s best artistic talent and give them the chance to showcase their work in reputable venues across major the world.  MSB looks forward to seeing the full exhibition at the V&A later this month!
