Grown Up Congenital Heart Patients' Association
Patient Experience Research


​Opportunity

The Grown Up Congenital Heart Patients’ Association (GUCHPA) wanted to learn more about the patient experience of people receiving treatment for congenital heart conditions.  GUCHPA wanted to use this information to drive up standards of care at nine specialist cardiac centres across England.

Approach
MSB designed a comprehensive yet concise survey which asked patients about their experience of admission, hospital facilities, visiting times, the hospital environment, food, cleanliness, nursing, surgical procedures, discharge, and other key aspects of the patient experience. 


Outcome
MSB achieved for GUCHPA a response rate substantially above the average for this type of survey.  This provided a sound basis for the detailed reports produced by MSB, which included practical, actionable recommendations on how to improve the patient experience in cardiac centres.


GUCHPA recently changed its name to the Somerville Foundation, which MSB is delighted to be working with on further patient satisfaction research in the field of congenital heart conditions.
