In a recent survey of HR decision makers in UK organisations with more 250 employees, 92% said they run leadership programmes for current leaders. However, just 1 in 6 participants said they have a strategy to develop future leaders and 7 in 10 accept that they must do more to identify and invest in the next generation of leadership talent from within their organisation. When asked who within an organisation should recognise and develop employees with leadership potential, 45% of participants responded that this responsibility should sit with line managers rather than with the business leads who sign off the leadership development and succession planning strategies.
